The 28th Intensive Training on Refugee Law, jointly organized by the Ren\u00e9 Cassin Foundation and the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in France, will take place from 16 to 27 November 2026 in Strasbourg and by videoconference.<\/p>\n

Training objectives<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This training aims to enable participants to achieve the following objectives:<\/p>\n

– To become familiar with the mandate and missions of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.<\/p>\n

– To acquire fundamental legal knowledge relating to the determination of refugee status.<\/p>\n

– To identify current challenges that may affect refugee law (climate-related issues, mass influxes, geopolitical situations, etc.).<\/p>\n

– To identify and analyze the difficulties that may arise in administrative and judicial procedures related to the determination of refugee status.<\/p>\n

– To develop skills to legally assist individuals with asylum seeker, refugee, or stateless status.<\/p>\n

– To work in groups and build a solid argumentation in the context of asylum litigation.<\/p>\n

– To be able to adopt a rigorous approach based on an analytical method that takes into account the information provided, the documentation, and the context.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The training is an advanced session intended for individuals who already have knowledge of international human rights law and\/or refugee law, and in particular for:<\/p>\n

– Legal professionals and other professionals working on human rights issues
\n– National and international civil servants
\n– Members of non-governmental organizations
\n– Teachers and researchers
\n– Master\u2019s students<\/p>\n

Teaching methods and assessment modalities:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The programme offers a dual general and thematic approach to the issue of refugees worldwide through lectures and the discussion of current issues, drawing on the field experience of UNHCR experts. Participants have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the speakers. <\/p>\n

For the in-person format only, a case study and a mock court exercise are offered in addition for participants. A visit to the European Court of Human Rights will provide further insight into this institution. <\/p>\n

For the in-person training, assessment is carried out through group work based on a mock court simulation, including the submission of a written brief and an oral pleading exercise, as well as a multiple-choice questionnaire covering all the topics addressed during the course, organized on the last day of the training.<\/p>\n

For the online training, the test will take place asynchronously and remotely.<\/p>\n
