International Criminal Law Training 2026 – International Criminal Justice in the Face of Global Crises

ICL training 2026

In an international context marked by the persistence of armed conflicts, the emergence of de facto regimes, the collapse of certain States and the proliferation of international investigative mechanisms, international criminal justice is confronted with increasingly fragmented and evolving crisis configurations. From the situation in Palestine and the West Bank to the dynamics observed in Sudan, Afghanistan and Myanmar, traditional legal frameworks are being tested by complex realities on the ground, where issues of jurisdiction, responsibility and the effectiveness of justice intersect.

In this context, how can criminal responsibility be addressed in situations marked by contested sovereignty or the absence of State authority? What mechanisms can be used to document crimes and prepare prosecutions, particularly through innovative tools such as independent investigative mechanisms? And how can a credible, victim-centred judicial response be ensured, beyond political and operational constraints?

The René Cassin Foundation – International Institute of Human Rights offers an intensive training programme in international criminal law, structured around the analysis of contemporary situations. Each session will focus on a specific crisis area, providing a legal, critical and forward-looking approach to examining the transformations, tensions and evolving prospects of international criminal justice.
