Tribute and Articles on his Legacy for Human Rights
René Cassin (1887-1976) is one of the most important figures in the modern history of human rights. A French jurist, diplomat and politician, he was one of the main drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and in 1968 received the Nobel Peace Prize for his international commitment to freedom, justice and human dignity.
This year, we commemorate the 50ᵉ anniversary of his death (February 20, 1976) by dedicating a special page to him on the website of the International Institute of Human Rights – René Cassin Foundation. Here you will find articles, analyses, testimonials and resources exploring his life, work, legal legacy and lasting influence on the promotion and protection of fundamental rights.
René Cassin was also the founder of the International Institute of Human Rights in 1969, using its prestigious worldwide recognition to strengthen human rights education, research and action in Strasbourg and around the world.
